Legal Field Expects Hiring Increase

Hiring is expected to increase in the legal field in the next three months, according to a survey developed by Robert Half Legal, a legal staffing firm specializing in lawyers, paralegals and other legal professionals.

An independent research firm conducted the survey, which is based on telephone interviews with 100 lawyers at law firms with 20 or more employees and 100 corporate lawyers at companies with 1,000 or more employees. All of the respondents had hiring authority within their organizations.

About 35 percent of lawyers interviewed said they plan to add legal staff in the next three months, while only 5 percent plan reductions in personnel. In addition, 84 percent of lawyers polled said they were are at least somewhat confident in their organizations’ ability to expand in the third quarter.

“Law firms are seeing renewed demand for their services, particularly in the areas of bankruptcy and foreclosure, litigation and business law,” Charles Volkert, executive director of Robert Half Legal, said in a press release. “As market conditions improve, firms are recruiting senior- and partner-level lawyers with the client portfolios and in-demand practice area expertise they need to explore new opportunities and generate revenue.”
