“Nonemployees” such as freelancers, independent contractors and temporary workers are an ever-growing and interesting part of America’s labor force, according to a recent Philadelphia Inquirer article.
This trend has especially been popular recently as many companies are still reluctant to hire permanent employees, the article says.
“Employers are human beings, and human beings don’t like firing human beings,” Harry Griendling, chief executive officer of DoubleStar Inc., a Pennsylvania staffing firm, says in the article. “They’d rather end a contract. It’s the difference between divorcing your wife and dumping your girlfriend.”
